The Best of the Best
Since 2003, Eagle Eye Summer Institutes have served an average of 120 young people each year, aged 16 to 35. We are committed to raising up Saints to lead, and have enabled these young people to explore profound questions, discovery joy, forge lasting friendships with other young Catholics, and most importantly, deepen their Catholic Faith. Our formation is broken down into three categories:
Intellectual & Cultural Formation: Choir, Theater, Talent Shows, 2 hours of Philosophy classes daily, and 2 hours of Theology classes daily
Spiritual Formation: Holy Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, Lectio Divina, the Liturgy of the Hours, Confession & Spiritual Direction, Living Stations of the Cross, and all-night Adoration
Human Formation: Hiking, Canoeing, Camping, Sports, Swimming, and Campfires
Ohio Teen | June 11 to 19
35 TEENS, 16-18+ years old and already strong in their Catholic Faith, are invited to a deepening of that faith during the 2022 Eagle Eye Summer Institute in Maria Stein, OH! Come join us on an eight-day summer session full of fun, friendship, recreation, prayer, and study. Led by the Brothers and Sisters of St. John, we are dedicated to helping you make this experience the best it can be!
Last summer was our first summer for the Ohio Teen EESI at Maria Stein. Under the loving care of Our Blessed Mother we flourished in the welcoming community found at this quiet setting.
This summer, our classes focus on our theme, Affirming God’s Existence: the Darkness of Doubt to the Illumination of Truth. Our study theme, along with daily Mass, Offices, and a Holy Hour, gives teens time to grow closer to Christ. We encourage you to take this opportunity to know God and discover His plan for you.
We will welcome 35 participants Saturday evening, June 11th, at The Spiritual Center of Maria Stein in Maria Stein, Ohio. Please arrive between 5:30 and 6:00 p.m. A light snack will be served that evening, so please be sure your teen has dinner prior to arrival.
The EEM website link asks for completion of the form needed for registration (please submit as soon as possible but before May 1). Beth Gillen is our registration coordinator. Delicious meals, comfortable lodging, study materials, camping and hiking fees as well as travel and expenses for the team of religious are included in the non-refundable registration fee of $425* (Checks to be made out to Eagle Eye Ministries or pay online). If you know anyone who would support us as a donor, we are raising funds toward our expenses for travel and stipends for the religious. For those considering a donation, please contact Kathy Kimar (kathykimar@gmail.com).
The Eagle Eye experience will end on Sunday, June 19, with Mass at 11:30am, followed by a picnic lunch for the teens, their families and staff. Please plan to join us for the Mass and a pot luck lunch to follow. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
We are fortunate to have many volunteers helping to organize the Eagle Eye Summer Institute. We are grateful for those who have willingly donated time and/or food to make this retreat possible. We always welcome the assistance of volunteers.
We look forward to seeing you at our 2022 Eagle Eye Teen Summer Institute in June! Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us throughout this endeavor!

Alaska YA | July 7 to 17
This program accepts only 20 participants.
Early Bird Registrants receive $100 discount.
Join the Brothers and Sisters of St. John and other Catholic young adults July 7 – 17 and discover God in the beauty of the Alaskan wilderness. Experience the rhythm of the liturgical observances of the Community of St. John. Early in this program we will be hiking the 24 mile Crow Pass Trail, well-known in Alaska as part of the historic Iditarod trail. For the 4 days of our backcountry adventure we’ll brave the challenges of crossing the glacial waters of Eagle River while also forging new friendships immersed in God’s creation. Following our hike, we will gather at the retreat center near Anchorage, with its stunning Chugach Mountains rising up on the fringes of the city, to continue theology and philosophy as part of our daily rhythm.
Please be aware, the hiking we will partake in consists of highly strenuous, technical routes such as crossing boulder fields. At times, we will hike without marked trails (back-country) and on uneven terrain with steep elevation gains for several hours. Additionally, participants must be able to carry a backpack while hiking filled with personal and group gear weighing about 40 pounds. At different points during the hike the weather conditions can range from 80 degrees and sunny to 30 degrees and sleet. There is no cell phone service. The camp sites have no facilities. You must be in shape and fit enough to walk steeply uphill, continuously for 3 miles, carrying a 40 pound backpack. A good attitude is required.
We will explore this year’s theme: “Affirming God’s Existence: the Darkness of Doubt to the Illumination of Truth”. Expect days that are dynamic and thought-provoking affording you a chance to discern your place as a young adult in the church as well as to search for truth and why it is important.
Participants can expect to share a bedroom with another person and to use shared bathrooms. Meals will be provided.
If you have any questions please email eagleeyealaska@gmail.com

We are eager to enter the thirteenth year offering the Eagle Eye Summer Institute for Young Adults. Eagle Eye is different than any other young adult retreat. Father Nathan Cromly of the Community of St. John launched Eagle Eye eighteen years ago with the idea to go as deep and as intense as we possibly can at all levels: prayer, formation, friendship, and Christian living. This program is destined to give those who want it, a taste of what it means to be truly Catholic and in love with Christ. For eight days, young adults, already strong in the understanding and practice of their faith, challenge themselves to a deeper appreciation and awareness of that faith.
Please email midwesteesi@gmail.com with any questions.
