The Best of the Best
Since 2003, Eagle Eye Summer Institutes have served an average of 120 young people each year, aged 16 to 35. We are committed to raising up Saints to lead, and have enabled these young people to explore profound questions, discovery joy, forge lasting friendships with other young Catholics, and most importantly, deepen their Catholic Faith. Our formation is broken down into three categories:
Intellectual & Cultural Formation: Choir, Theater, Talent Shows, 2 hours of Philosophy classes daily, and 2 hours of Theology classes daily
Spiritual Formation: Holy Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, Lectio Divina, the Liturgy of the Hours, Confession & Spiritual Direction, Living Stations of the Cross, and all-night Adoration
Human Formation: Hiking, Canoeing, Camping, Sports, Swimming, and Campfires

We’re so excited to grow closer to Christ with all of you this summer!
Dear Eagle Eye Parents and Participants,
32 TEENS, 16-18+ years old and already strong in their Catholic Faith, are invited to a deepening of that faith during the 2021 Eagle Eye Summer Institute in Maria Stein, OH! Come join us on a seven-day summer session full of fun, friendship, recreation, prayer, and study. Led by the Brothers and Sisters of St. John, we are dedicated to helping you make this experience the best it can be!
After 15 years of housing our institute at the Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey, OH, the retreat house closed to overnight programs. We pray for the continued guidance of Our Blessed Mother as we find our new home at Maria Stein Retreat Center located in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati.
This summer, our classes focus on our theme Be Fortified With the Truth: Navigating InnerTurmoil Amidst Cultural Confusion. Our study theme, along with daily Mass, Offices, and a Holy Hour, gives teens time to grow closer to Christ. We encourage you to take this opportunity to know God and discover His plan for you.
We will welcome 32 participants on Sunday morning, June 13th, at The Spiritual Center of Maria Stein in Maria Stein, Ohio. Please arrive between 10 and 10:30 a.m. Holy Mass and lunch will be offered to the teens. Due to social distancing and safety mandates we have to limit the opening Mass to the staff and participants (please plan drop off only). You may have noticed the number of participants is smaller than in years past. As we return to the in-person program this summer our goal, as always, is to do this responsibly.
The EEM website link asks for completion of the form needed for registration (please submit as soon as possible but before May 1). Tayler Zeszut is our registration coordinator. Delicious meals, comfortable lodging, and study materials, as well as travel and expenses for the team of religious are included in the non-refundable registration fee of $385* (Checks to be made out to Eagle Eye Ministries). Our costs are higher this summer impacted by necessary procedures in response to the pandemic. If you know anyone who would support us as a donor, we are raising funds toward our expenses for travel and stipends for the religious. For those considering a donation, please contact Kathy Kimar (firstname.lastname@example.org).
The Eagle Eye experience will end on Saturday, June 19, with Mass at 11:30am, followed by a picnic for the teens and staff. Please schedule your teen to be picked up between 2:20-3pm. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
We are fortunate to have many volunteers helping to organize the Eagle Eye Summer Institute. We are grateful for those who have willingly donated time and/or food to make this retreat possible. We always welcome the assistance of volunteers.
We look forward to seeing you at our 2021 Eagle Eye Teen Summer Institute in June! Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us throughout this endeavor!

Join the Brothers and Sisters of St. John and other Catholic young adults July 15 – 25 and discover God in the beauty of the Alaskan wilderness. The days take the rhythm of the liturgical observances of the Community of St. John. We will begin by hiking the 24 mile Crow Pass Trail, a well-known trail in Alaska, which is part ofthe historic Iditarod trail. For the first 4 days, we’ll brave the challenges of crossing the glacial water of Eagle River immersed in God’s creation while forging new friendships . When we return from the outdoors to the retreat center near Anchorage we continue theology and philosophy classes with the stunning Chugach Mountains rising up on the eastern fringes of the city.
Please be aware, the hiking we will partake in consists of highly strenuous, technical routes such as crossing boulder fields. At times, we will hike without marked trails (back-country) and on uneven terrain with steep elevation gains for several hours. Additionally, participants must be able to carry a backpack while hiking filled with personal and group gear weighing about 40 pounds. At different points during the hike the weather conditions can range from 80 degrees and sunny to 30 degrees and sleet. There is no cell phone service. The camp sites have no facilities. You must be in shape and fit enough to walk steeply uphill, continuously for 3 miles, carrying a 40 pound backpack. A good attitude is required.
The days are dynamic and thought-provoking. We will explore this year’s theme: “Be Fortified with the Truth: Navigating Inner Turmoil amidst Cultural Confusion”. This is your chance to discern your place as a young adult in the church as well as to search for truth and why it is important. Participants can expect to share a bedroom with another person and to use shared bathrooms. Meals will be provided.
NOTE: Please wait on making flight arrangements to Alaska until you communicate with the registration coordinator, Marisa.
If you have any questions please email Marisa via email@example.com

We are eager to enter the twelfth year offering the Eagle Eye Summer Institute for Young Adults. Eagle Eye is different than any other young adult retreat. Father Nathan Cromly of the Community of St. John launched Eagle Eye seventeen years ago with the idea to go as deep and as intense as we possibly can at all levels: prayer, formation, friendship, and Christian living. This program is destined to give those who want it, a taste of what it means to be truly Catholic and in love with Christ. For eight days, young adults, already strong in the understanding and practice of their faith, challenge themselves to a deeper appreciation and awareness of that faith.
The location was selected to meet the needs of young adults in a wide geographic area. The Institute was formerly held in Cincinnati, Ohio. For 2021, our Institute begins on Saturday, July 31st, with an invigorating outdoor experience. After a two days of scenic hiking with breathtaking views at John Bryant State Park in Ohio we will continue our journey through Sunday, August 8th at the Spiritual Center at Montezuma. This newly renovated retreat center is located in “The Land of the Cross Tipped Churches” surrounded by nature through adjoining parks and walking paths. Come and experience the natural beauty and solitude found at this western Ohio retreat center situated on 5 acres near Grand Lake St. Marys.
While at the retreat center, our classes focus on this year’s “Be Fortified with the Truth: Navigating InnerTurmoil amidst Cultural Confusion.” The young adult participants will be led in Philosophy and Theology classes by religious from the Community of St. John, along with holy Mass, prayer, adoration, recreation and quiet time as part of the daily schedule.
