The Best of the Best

Since 2003, Eagle Eye Summer Institutes have served an average of 120 young people each year, aged 16 to 35. We are committed to raising up Saints to lead, and have enabled these young people to explore profound questions, discovery joy, forge lasting friendships with other young Catholics, and most importantly, deepen their Catholic Faith. Our formation is broken down into three categories:

Intellectual & Cultural Formation: Choir, Theater, Talent Shows, 2 hours of Philosophy classes daily, and 2 hours of Theology classes daily

Spiritual Formation: Holy Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, Lectio Divina, the Liturgy of the Hours, Confession & Spiritual Direction, Living Stations of the Cross, and all-night Adoration

Human Formation: Hiking, Canoeing, Camping, Sports, Swimming, and Campfires

We invite teens, ages 16-18, to embark on an 8 day summer session full of fun, friendship, recreation, prayer, and study. Our retreat will be on the monastery grounds of the Community of St. John in Princeville, IL and is led by Brothers and Sisters of St. John. For 19 summers, young people have gathered at the Eagle Eye Teen Summer Institute in Princeville, Illinois to search for what is most profound – God.

This summer, our classes will focus on our theme. The classes, along with Mass, the Divine Office, and a Holy Hour each day, give teens the opportunity to grow closer to Christ and be formed in the truths of the faith. Campfires, sports, and recreation offer a chance to form deep friendships with other teens dedicated to growing in holiness.

Alaska YA | July 25-August 4, 2024

This program accepts only 18 participants.
Early Bird Registrants receive $100 discount.

Join the Brothers and Sisters of St. John and other Catholic young adults ages 20 – 35, July 25 – August 4 and discover God in the beauty of the Alaskan wilderness. Experience the rhythm of the liturgical observances of the Community of St. John. Early in this program we will be hiking the 24 mile Crow Pass Trail, well known in Alaska as part of the historic Iditarod trail. For the 4 days of our backcountry adventure, immersed in God’s creation, we will forge new friendships while we brave the challenges of crossing the glacial waters of Eagle River. Following our hike, as part of our daily rhythm at the retreat center near Anchorage, we will continue theology and philosophy, with views of the Chugach Mountains rising up on the fringes of the city. While we explore this year’s theme, expect days that are dynamic and thought-provoking affording you a chance to discern your place as a young adult in the church as well as to search for truth and why it is important.

Please be aware, the hiking we will partake in consists of highly strenuous, technical routes such as crossing boulder fields. At times, we will hike without marked trails (back-country) and on uneven terrain with steep elevation gains for several hours. Additionally, while hiking, participants must be able to carry a backpack weighing about 40 pounds, filled with personal and group gear. At different points during the hike the weather conditions can range from 80 degrees and sunny to 30 degrees and sleet. There is no cell phone service. The camp sites have no facilities. You must be in shape and fit enough to walk steeply uphill, continuously for 3 miles, carrying your 40 pound backpack. A good attitude is required.

Participants can expect to share a bedroom with another person and to use shared bathrooms. Meals will be provided.
