Since 2003…

From 1 day to 365 days in length, Eagle Eye Ministries has launched six programs since its first Summer Institute in 2003. Three programs have since been retired, but five programs continue, namely: Summer Institutes, Excursions, Retreats, Pilgrimages, and Eagle Eye PRO.

Every year, Eagle Eye Ministries hosts an average of four Summer Institutes, three Excursions, two Retreats, and an annual Pilgrimage, as well as webinars, podcasts, and small groups, making formation available year-round to teens and young adults ages 16 to 35.

Over 6000 teens and young adults have passed through our programs. Eagle Eye Ministries is almost entirely dependent on a large and incredibly dedicated volunteer staff, many of whom are alumni.

Eagle Eye Board of Ministries

Eagle Eye Ministries is faithfully served by a dedicated Board, consisting of the Central Strategic Team, our Treasurer, our Bookkeeper, our Accountant, our Volunteer Coordinator, our Director of Hospitality, and our national-level Program Directors, who oversee our local-level event directors.

Eagle Eye Associates

From camping and backpacking gear for our Excursions, frequent flyer miles for our Pilgrimage staff, to their participation in our Annual Eagle Eye Novena, we are blessed by the generosity of our Associates, who have pledged their ongoing prayers and resources in support of Eagle Eye Ministries.

Eagle Eye Volunteers

We are indebted to hundreds of volunteers who team up with us, year after year, to provide an excellent experience for thousands of teens and young adults. Whether it’s graphic design, promotional efforts, or cooking enough meals to feed 50 staff members and participants for a whole week, we praise God for the varied talents of our team!

Liturgy of the Hours

The Liturgy of the Hours is sometimes referred to as “the breath of the Church,” for through it, She is united in prayer at set times, with a rhythm like breathing. While the practice of praying the Liturgy of the Hours is mandatory only for the Consecrated, all are welcome to participate. Learning to pray the Hours is an integral part of Eagle Eye formation.

The Community of St. John

Eagle Eye Ministries is an apostolate of the Community of St. John. The Brothers of St. John serve as the rectors of all of our program events, as well as confessors and spiritual directors. The Apostolic Sisters also offer spiritual direction, and lead small groups for our program participants. The Contemplative Sisters lift us all up in prayer, and many oblates volunteer for Eagle Eye Ministries.

Saint John Institute

Eagle Eye Ministries constitutes one of the three ministry arms of the Saint John Institute. The other two arms are the Saint John Leadership Institute, a graduate program dedicated to the formation of Catholic entrepreneurs, and the Saint John Institute National Leadership Network, which seeks to forge a bridge between Faith and business.

Strategic Partnerships

Eagle Eye Ministries emulates the words of St. Paul, “For we are God’s servants, working together…” as we work with many other ministries and companies to make encounters with Christ possible for our participants, alumni, volunteers, and benefactors.

– History –

Eagle Eye began as a response by the Community of St. John to the thirst of young people…

Through their many apostolates with young people in the Church, from rock-climbing camps to downhill ski outings, Brothers and Sisters of the Community of St. John encountered many young people with a thirst to go to the heart of their Catholic Faith, to discover the profound harmony between their lives and the desires of Christ crucified. They began Eagle Eye to give the most, of the best, to the thirstiest.

In June of 2003, our first 8-day retreat took place in Princeville, Illinois. Since then, we have continuously expanded through the grace of God to a family of over 6000 alumni, and over 125 volunteers and benefactors.

– Vision –

The spirit behind Eagle Eye is the same as the spirit of Christ Jesus Himself, the “Eagle in flight,” (Rev. 4). In Jesus Crucified, and especially His cry of thirst and the piercing of His Heart (when He gave His Spirit, the Paraclete, to His Church (I Jn. 5:8)), we find the fullest expression of this mystery of Christ, “the Eagle in flight”. This spirit, lived out perfectly by the Virgin Mary, was also embodied and handed on to the Church in a special way in the person and writings of St. John the Apostle, and demonstrated vividly for us in the life and doctrine of St. Theresa of the Child Jesus. Following in their footsteps, Eagle Eye strives to bring each of its participants to experience the cry of thirst of Christ as intensely as possible by helping them delve as deeply as possible into the mystery of a Christian Charity lived out as a “sincere gift of themselves” (Lumen Gentium, 22) in prayer, study, fraternal charity and apostolic service.

– Mission –

Eagle Eye Ministries endeavors to form, unite, and inspire young Catholics for the new evangelization by deepening their relationship with Jesus Christ through prayer, study, culture, and community. We embolden our participants to do great things with their lives! We give them the formation that makes it possible, and provide them the resources to find their unique place in the Church. To that end, we:

  • bring them to an authentic faith encounter with Christ;
  • provide rigorous intellectual formation in the philosophy of Aristotle;
  • foster authentic expressions of human culture; and
  • immerse them in the experience of community to create real friendships and support on the path to holiness.

We need your help!

Eagle Eye Ministries changed my life! I went on my first summer institute with them a few years ago and it was amazing. I was a young professional one year out of college. I was working for the Church which was nice, but I had no Catholic friends and it was really starting to get me down. This retreat introduced me to some of the most wonderful and holy people I have ever had the pleasure to know. And the retreat itself opened up a whole new world for me regarding the Church. I had never been exposed to such beautiful liturgies before. In fact, I had no idea they still existed after Vatican II! My whole life I thought the liturgy was the same across the board. What I grew up with was what it was. But Eagle Eye showed me a whole new world of old traditions bringing new life to my soul. We got to meet REAL sisters and brothers who had dedicated their lives to the Lord. We got to participate in their lifestyle. We chanted the divine office, we went to daily mass and holy hour…we went to fantastic classes taught by amazing priests and religious. In a way we got to participate in eternity. For one beautiful week our lives had order and harmony, joy and friendship. And the best part, the fruits of that retreat keep on giving year after year. The people you meet stick with you. You walk together in holiness. You start making better choices and you start to encounter beauty more often. I owe Eagle Eye my life. In the midst of my ‘quarter life crisis’ this ministry came in, with the help of the Holy Spirit, and provided me with new friendships and experiences far beyond what I could have possibly imagined for myself. I volunteer now with most of their local retreats and I’m always trying to get new people to join us. This ministry and Father Nathan, all the religious, they are a real gift to this world, and they are exactly what young adults need in the Church today.

This ministry is doing so much for the Church and the New Evangelization. It has made a profound impact on my own life, especially in deepening my relationship with the Lord and directing me in His ways. Thank you to Fr. Nathan for boldly starting this spark in the fire of many hearts, may it enflame the world to proclaim the Gospel! God bless Eagle Eye!
