Created in 2010 by a priest in the Congregation of St. John, the Marian Faith Network is largely a response to the encouragement and desires of a cloistered Sister of the Visitation in Toledo, Ohio to help young people discover and live a life consecrated to Jesus through Mary. From formation videos to books, from a monthly e-mail newsletter to retreats, the Marian Faith Network seeks to help young people discover and live out the riches of the consecration to Jesus through Mary presented by St. Louis de Montfort.
This consecration is nothing “new” in the sense that it adds nothing to the essential message of the Gospel: salvation through grace by faith in Jesus Christ, the sole mediator between God and men. In fact, making an act of formal consecration of oneself to Jesus through Mary in the form of a prayer composed by St. Louis de Montfort himself in the early part of the 18th century proposes a way to live out one’s personal relationship with our Lord and Savior in the most intense and perfect of ways: in the way that the Virgin Mary, His Mother, lived in relation to Him. This is what it means to live for Jesus in Mary: to believe in, hope in, and love Jesus as Mary did. In the end, isn’t this what it means to take Mary “into one’s own” (Jn 19:27).
The MFN hopes to provide materials to help the young people of today discover the ancient wealth of wisdom contained in the spirituality of this consecration. Hoping to be a complement to the classic materials offered and suggested by the saint himself, the MFN hopes to be accessible to the thoughts and hopes of the modern generation of Christians. At the same time, we hope to provide a more intensely contemplative and theologically explicit formation appropriate to today’s well-educated youth.
It goes without saying that the MFN is completely consecrated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and has a filial link to the life and thought of Pope John Paul II and Father Marie Dominique Philippe, O.P., founder of the Congregation of St. John.
