Over 1000 years ago, the Camino de Santiago began as a pilgrimage to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, the burial place of the apostle St James the Great, patron saint of Spain. Along with Rome and the Holy Land, it was one of Christendom’s greatest pilgrimage destinations during the Middle Ages. Pilgrims made the long, arduous, and, at times, dangerous journey to Santiago de Compostela as a way to deepen their spiritual lives.
Just as our earthly pilgrimage can take a variety of different paths to arrive at the same designation, so does the Camino. Eagle Eye has chosen the “Camino Portugués” for the opportunity to visit Our Lady of Fatima, the Patroness of Eagle Eye Ministries, for the 100th year anniversary of the apparitions. Eagle Eye’s Camino will start at Valença, Portugal. We will walk, just as our pilgrim predecessors did, 120 KM in one week to arrive at the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela to celebrate the Feast of St. James on July 25th.
The Brothers and Sisters of the Community of St John will lead the pilgrimage. There will be daily Mass, Adoration, Liturgy of the Hours, periods of silence, talks from the religious, and discussions with the Brothers, Sisters, and fellow pilgrims. This is a Level I Excursion.
